Visas
If you are an EU/USA passport holder, you do not need a visa to enter Nicaragua if your stay does not exceed 90 days. Most of the other nationals can obtain a visa on arrival. All visitors must hold proof of sufficient funds to cover the stay, and documents required for their next destination, as well as a passport valid for a minimum of 6 months. Nationals from all visa-exempt countries are required to obtain a tourist card (10 USD) upon arrival.
We strongly recommend you check all the entry and visa requirements for your country before planning the trip!
Vaccines
We advise you to contact your doctor/local vaccination center for vaccine recommendations. In most cases, vaccines are advisory and the most commonly recommended ones are Hepatitis A, B, typhoid, malaria, yellow fever and rabies.
Currency
The official currency is Nicaraguan Córdoba (NIO), but US dollars are commonly used and accepted in most facilities. We always recommend holding some local currency, as not all the stores, restaurants, and bars accept credit cards.
When staying at hotel facilities, you should expect your bill to include both 15% IVA and 2% tourism tax, which makes a total of 17% of an additional cost to your bill.
Insurance
We strongly recommend getting good travel insurance with strong protection and an addition of extreme sports (surf) for a stress-free holiday. To get one of those, please contact your local insurance agents.
